NIU wraps up the 2022 season on Thanksgiving Saturday when they host the Akron Zips at Huskie Stadium. NIU leads the all-time streak with Akron 11-5, winning each of the last six meetings. The Huskies have at least 27 points in every game of this winning streak against the Zips, including a 49-0 shutout in the 2019 homecoming game. NIU will honor 12 seniors before Saturday’s game. Fans can take advantage of discounted ticket deals, $5 alcoholic beverages and a black NIU football jersey as a giveaway, courtesy of the Old National Bank. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Three games await the NIU men’s basketball team this week, beginning with a pair in Fort Myers, Fla. when the Huskies go head-to-head in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off. NIU will open the tournament Tuesday at 11 a.m. CT against Sam Houston, the Huskies then meet on either Long Island or South Dakota on Wednesday. A free live stream of both games will be available on NIU will then wrap up the week on Saturday, November 26th with a trip to Northern Iowa. The Huskies will play their first game at Cedar Falls since the 2009 game. Nutter snagged 15 boards last time out at Georgia Tech, the most by a Huskie in a game since 2019.

NIU (3-1) won its third straight game with a 100-61 win over western Illinois at the NIU Convocation Center last Thursday night. It was the Huskies’ eighth straight win on their home soil. The Huskies posted a school record 21 threes in the game and broke the previous record of 18 in a win in Eastern Illinois on Dec. 4, 2020. NIU shot 49.3 percent from the field and turned 18 Leathernecks turnovers into 26 points. The Huskies open a five-game road trip against the Detroit Mercy Titans at Calihan Hall on Tuesday afternoon. Afterward, NIU travels to Annapolis to compete in the Navy Tournament, where they face off against Navy and Richmond at the Alumni Hall.

Tuesday, November 22: Red-Black Intrasquad Meeting, Victor E. Court, 6 p.m

The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team will compete for the first time in a face-to-face situation in 2022-23 at the annual Red-Black Intrasquad Meet at Victor E. Court Tuesday at 6 p.m. The huskies will split the team into two teams and the judges will score the huskies’ routines. NIU’s 2023 roster includes six collegiate gymnastics freshmen, including three Illinois natives, while senior Natalie Hamp, two-time MAC champion and NCAA qualifier, leads the returnee batch. As with all home gym meetings, admission to the red-black meeting is free. The Huskies open the regular season at home Sunday, January 8 at 2 p.m., the first of four home competitions for NIU during the 2023 regular season.
