SLU’s Collins and Bonnies Farell win the Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Saint Louis Junior Yuri Collins Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. St. Bonaventure freshman Yann Farell was voted the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday and apply to games played from November 14th to 21st.

Collins led the Billikens in a 2-1 week against impressive opponents with 18.3 points and 7.3 assists per game. The St. Louis guard was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun. He shot 47.1 percent (16 of 34) from the field and 87.5 percent (21 of 24) from the free throw line. Collins started the week with nine assists and had a team-high 22 points in the win over Memphis. He also led the team in scoring against Providence, scoring 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting in the comeback win over the brothers. Collins leads the NCAA in total assists and assists per game.

Farell averaged 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in 33 minutes per game in two games last week. The Libreville, Gabon forward hit his first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and added two assists and a block against defending Summit League champions South Dakota State on Tuesday. He then went on to record 14 points and seven rebounds in a win over Bowling Green on Saturday. He also added two blocks and shot 11-to-23 (.478) from the floor and 40 percent (8-to-20) from 3-point range against the Falcons.

Davidson’s Sam Mennenga averaged 19.0 points on 22-of-39 (.564) shooting while averaging 7.0 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Wildcats… Daron Holmes II scored 18 points on 7 of 9 from the field (.778), collected six rebounds and dished out four assists in Dayton’s win over Robert Morris … UD freshman Mike Sharavjamts buried four threes en route to a 14-point, four rebounds performance at UNLV…Duquesne Dae Dae Grant excelled at shooting last week, hitting 11 of 22 (.500) from the field, 8 of 13 (.615) of three and was a perfect 8 of 8 at the line to average 19.0 points in two wins… Jacob Bishop Tie the ninth-best game in A-10 history with 44 points against Hofstra, 15 field goals, five three-pointers and 9-of-10 (.900) at the line… Philip Alston was a consistent presence for Loyola-Chicago, averaging 15.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks in three games at the Myrtle Beach Invitational
… Noah Fernandes excelled as he led UMass to the Myrtle Beach Invitational title and earned MVP honors including a 3-pointer to the buzzer to lift the Minutemen past Murray State in the semifinals … Rhode Island Ishmael Legget had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a win over Stony Brook…Rhody Freshman Louis Hutchinson scored 15 points on 6-of-8 (.750) shots from the field, including two three-pointers made in the win over the Seawolves…St. Bonaventure’s Daryl Bank III scored 34 points in a win over Bowling Green, shot .625 (10 of 16) from the field with a stunning 7-of-11 (.636) from 3-point range…Saint Joseph’s Erik Reynolds II was outstanding at leading the Hawks to two wins, hitting 21 with four assists against Lafayette and 32 with three assists against Albany while shooting .607 (17-28) from the field for the week, including 10 triples.
