🏊‍♀️ Kansas Compete on Day One of the Kansas Classic – Kansas Jayhawks

TOPEKA, Kan. – Kansas is currently in second place after the first day of action of the Kansas Classic at the Capitol Federal Natatorium. The Jayhawks are just two points behind Iowa State and lead Little Rock, Indiana State and Northern Iowa in the team standings.

“We started the meet very bumpy this morning in the prelims but how we came back this afternoon was how we are as a team,” said head coach Clark Campbell. “I’m very happy with how many people got through the morning, which set us up well for tonight. I’m very happy to start the meeting with the relay and end the meeting with another relay because our relays were really good. It just seemed like everyone was a little more immersed in the meeting tonight. We just have to keep that energy up for the rest of the meeting.”

The Jayhawks started the day with first place in the 200m freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:35.93. The relay team consisted of freshman Ainsley Dillon, senior Autumn Looney, super senior Dewi Blose and senior Keyla Brown. Kansas has now won this event in all four meetings this season.

Junior Ellie Wehrmann got Kansas’ next top-three finish, finishing second in 2:04.78 in the 200 individual medley. Senior Keyla Brown then placed in the 50 freestyle and secured third place with a time of 23.49 seconds.

Day one ended on a high when the Jayhawks took first place in the 400 medley relay. The team of junior Claudia Dougan, rookie Lydia Lafferty, rookie Molly Robinson and sophomore Lezli Sisung raced to a time of 3:42.18.
