Most observers didn’t expect South Carolina to give Tennessee a big game on Saturday night.
That wasn’t the case, however, as the Gamecocks lead 35-24 at halftime.
While the Volunteers’ offense was explosive as usual, their defense struggled a lot in the first half.
South Carolina moved the ball behind quarterback Spencer Rattler at will, and the Tennessee defense was marked for some key 2nd-quarter penalties that kept a Gamecocks shot on target alive.
Overall, South Carolina amassed 355 total yards of offense in the 1st half, including 249 passing yards and 4 touchdowns by Rattler.

Amazingly, the Gamecocks scored touchdowns on all 5 of their 1st-half possessions.
For a Tennessee team that needs a win to contend for a place in the college football playoffs, it was an odd defensive performance that college football fans took to social media to notice:
Tennessee with a Rose Bowl offense and an Independence Bowl defense.

Garbage Tennessee Defense. No problem

Tennessee’s defense is softer than microwave butter. I’m not complaining though, the higher the UofSC hopes the further they will collapse next week.
