Tennessee’s defense against South Carolina is being shredded on the field and on social media

Most observers didn’t expect South Carolina to give Tennessee a big game on Saturday night.

That wasn’t the case, however, as the Gamecocks lead 35-24 at halftime.

While the Volunteers’ offense was explosive as usual, their defense struggled a lot in the first half.

South Carolina moved the ball behind quarterback Spencer Rattler at will, and the Tennessee defense was marked for some key 2nd-quarter penalties that kept a Gamecocks shot on target alive.

Overall, South Carolina amassed 355 total yards of offense in the 1st half, including 249 passing yards and 4 touchdowns by Rattler.

Amazingly, the Gamecocks scored touchdowns on all 5 of their 1st-half possessions.

For a Tennessee team that needs a win to contend for a place in the college football playoffs, it was an odd defensive performance that college football fans took to social media to notice:
